According to the researches published in the “Life Science”, the artemisinin – derivative of the plant Sweet wormwood (Artemisia annua) used in the Chinese medicine – can kill 98 percent of the breast cancer cells in less than 16 hours. If the plant is used alone, it causes a 28 percent reduction in the breast cancer cells, but in combination with iron, the Sweet wormwood has managed to “erase” the cancer almost completely. Moreover, in this experiment there was hardly any influence on the normal cells of the breasts.
In the past, the artemisinin has been used as a powerful antimalarial agent, and now it has been proven that it is effective against cancer as well. When the subjects in the study were given iron as well, which often builds up in the tissues of the breast but especially in the cells infected with cancer, the artemisinin selectively attacked the “bad” cells, while the “good” cells were not touched.
“All together, our results demonstrate that the artemisinin effect on the E2F1 transcription factor mediates in stopping of the cell circuit of the breast cancer cells and it is a critical transcription way in which the artemisinin controls the growth of the reproductive cancer cells.” – It is said in the conclusion of the research in the laboratory for cancer, the University of California.
The iron accumulates in cancer cells with specific receptors that help them in the division of the cells (called “transferrin” receptors). Probably, the normal cells also have these receptors, but the cancer cells have them in larger quantities, and therefore they can be a target of the combination of iron and artemisinin.
There have been many experiments that prove that the artemisinin can effectively eliminate the disease in the presence of iron. This extract has been used in China against malaria for thousands of years. The malaria parasite cannot live in the presence of the artemisinin because it is full of iron. The bioengineers Henry Lai and Narendra Singh of the University of Washington, Seattle, are the scientists who first discovered this.
Here you can see that their research has proven that cancer cells experience apoptosis or their own destruction.
Until now, it was difficult to find this extract at lower prices, but with the growing interest for this plant, the price could be more acceptable as well.
The French pharmaceutical manufacturer “Sanofi” expects a production of 50 to 60 tons of artemisinin every year, hoping to meet the demand of the world market.
