Getting a Varithena Treatment for Varicose Veins: Know What to Expect

0

If your varicose veins are aching, itching, and swelling, you may want to consider using Varithena, which is a microfoam treatment. Varithena in New York is used for addressing venous insufficiency and varicose vein disease. In general, the treatment takes just a few minutes to perform, and it can relieve your symptoms and offer cosmetic improvement within weeks.

How Varithena Works

Your doctor will inject Varithena directly into the impacted saphenous vein and saphenous tributaries leading to the vein wall’s inner lining. Following the vein treatment, the patient’s body will think it does not need the vein anymore and resorb it slowly. Because of this, the patient will notice an improvement in their symptoms and appearance within just a few weeks or months. More significant changes will happen after treatment after a year. A patient must wear compression stockings two weeks after treatment and should walk frequently.

A Varithena treatment is nonsurgical. A specialist will fill a small amount of it to the vein’s problem area. When the foam flows into the area, the problem vein will collapse, making your blood flow shift to nearby healthy veins. Once the foam comes into contact with your blood, it becomes deactivated.

Creating a Treatment Plan

Even a single treatment of Varithena can show some results, depending on the size and number of varicose veins you have. You may need additional treatment if the maximum dose of the treatment is not enough for your veins per session. You will usually get your treatment every five days.

What to Expect on the Day of the Procedure?

When it is time for your appointment, ensure you bring your compression hose. The procedure can take less than 30 minutes without administering tumescent anesthesia. Your provider will use ultrasound technology to insert a needle to find the varicose vein wall. The provider will insert the Varithena solution into the needle, which will travel throughout the affected vein.

Recovery Expectations

Your doctor may let you resume light activities on the same day following your treatment. But, you should not perform heavy exercises for a week. Also, you should walk at least ten minutes every day for one month and avoid inactivity for long periods.

The bandage and compression stocking your provider will apply to the treated area must be kept dry. Depending on the vein being treated, you must wear the compression stockings day and night for up to 14 days.
