How Can You Feel Positive And Better With Early Cataract Surgery?

0

Cataract usually happens to a person when the proteins present in the lens of the eye starts to change. The symptoms start with blurry vision as the lens becomes cloudy. One can start to feel sensitivity to light and night-vision becomes drastically decreased. Haloes can be seen around lights, especially street lights and car lights. This is why it is recommended to have routine eye exams with your ophthalmologist.

Before advances in technology, people with Cataracts would wait for a long time until they reached old age to finally go through surgery. Nowadays it is highly recommended to remove cataracts as soon as your optometrist or ophthalmologist feel it is medically justified. This allows for a safer and more successful outcome. Cataract surgery can even be recommended at younger ages for diabetics or those who have cataracts related to steroid-use or excessive UV light exposure.

In the case of cataract surgery, the clouded lens gets removed by a small ultrasound probe. This is called phacoemulsification. The cloudy lens is replaced with an implant called intraocular lens (IOL). A very small corneal incision is made by your eye surgeon to make this all possible. The surgery is done quickly, usually in less than a half hour. You will notice clearer vision almost immediately.

Treat Glaucoma quicker

When you have glaucoma, often there is high intraocular pressure (IOP). This is the pressure inside the eye and it is different than your blood pressure. This can start to gradually damage the optic nerve. If left untreated, glaucoma can eventually blind someone. When cataract surgery is done, the intraocular pressure can become lower. Minimally invasive surgeries and techniques can be used at the same time as cataract surgery to lower the intraocular pressure as well. Cataract surgery can increase the chances of improving your eyesight with better intraocular pressure control. You can become less dependent on glaucoma medicines at the same time.
